December 1st, 2008 marked the 50th anniversary of the tragic fire that occurred at the Our Lady of the Angels Catholic School in Chicago Illinois. 92 children and 3 nuns perished in the fire. A significant piece of fire service innovation performed flawlessly at this fire. This was the 1958 Pittman-Snorkel fire truck. Its boom is pictured above. Many lives were saved due to the use of this piece of apparatus. It is now completely restored and on display on the floor of the fire museum. For more information click here
